When D-Day is the subject, two names instantly come to mind, Speed Nichols and Brig. Gen. Theodore Roosevelt Jr., two personal heroes previously mentioned here.

Enterprise’s Speed, all 112 pounds of him when he hit the Normandy beach toting a 75-pound backpack and 12-pound rifle, didn’t let size deter him one lick.

Speed was perhaps slightly smaller than long, tall Texan Audie Murphy, 5 feet, 5 inches and 112 pounds, who won almost every honor awarded U.S. soldiers, including the Congressional Medal of Honor, by the time he was 19 years old.

The City of Enterprise and the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce have announced a swap in dates for two of the community’s most cherished holiday events.
