Family and friends gathered on May 29 to celebrate the Creede High School Class of 2025. The Creede school gym was packed to the brim with those in attendance to celebrate the accomplishments of five students graduating from the Creede School District.

MONTE VISTA - On May 28, a newly covered statue that reads “J.D. Sanchez Park” was placed in the park on Pennsylvania Avenue in Monte Vista.  The public is invited to the unveiling of the statue. The program will begin at 1 p.m. on June 21.

ABC Celebrates Fifth Anniversary with Open House is June 12 714j6u

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Bicycle Coalition (ABC) began five years ago as a small grass-roots initiative. The coalition will hold an open house in Alamosa on June 12. By refurbishing used bicycles and donating them to persons referred by local community partners, ABC works to meet the needs of those in our local community who lack access to other reliable basic transportation for work, school, appointments, shopping and other essential community engagements.

ALAMOSA — When the Alamosa School District (ASD) saw historic progress this year in the number of elementary students advancing in their fluent English proficiency scores, it all pointed back to the work of Elisamaria Heredia, an English Language instructor at the Alamosa Elementary 3-5 school.

But with wildfires moving from the backcountry to backyards, the public is becoming more aware of the men and women who do this dangerous work. At the same time, people probably don’t know much about the very real health risks of the job. Now, it’s getting harder for anyone to know.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the ing of Steven Willard Lawton, a cherished member of our community, who departed this life on May 24, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on Dec. 16, 1953, in Monte Vista, Colo., Steve spent his entire life in the San Luis Valley, a place he truly loved. 
Evelyn Farish
With deep sorrow, we announce the ing of Evelyn Farish, who departed this life peacefully with her family at her side on May 27, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on Dec. 2, 1942, in Pulaski, Tenn., Evelyn was a cherished resident of Monte Vista, Colo. She is survived by her beloved husband, Eugene Lee Farish, whom she married on June 29, 1996.
